Adam Gross

Developer-platform operator-CEO turned active angel/advisor — best known as ex-CEO of Heroku (2013–2018) and, more recently, Vimeo’s interim CEO (2023–24) and board director. Today he is a full-time angel/advisor in developer infrastructure and is building something new in source control.

Snapshot

  • Now: Active angel investor / advisor across developer infrastructure (ex-Heroku CEO). Board member at Buildkite (since 2023). Appears to be building a new source-control venture, East River Source Control (ersc.io).^[single-source — his own LinkedIn]
  • Archetype (for init): Strategic / Operator — dev-platform operator-CEO validator.
  • Warm path: Ryan Carlson (The Operator Network).

Why an init.inc angel target

  • Operator-CEO validation of a developer/back-office platform. Ran Heroku through its enterprise scale-up inside Salesforce — exactly the “self-serve → enterprise” arc init is attempting; his name on the cap table is a credibility signal to dev-minded buyers and later-stage investors.
  • Prolific, on-thesis angel. Multi-sourced checks in Cribl, Tailscale, Buildkite, and dbt Labs — infra/data/devtools companies adjacent to init’s automation wedge. Knows how to evaluate platform plays.
  • Deep enterprise-SaaS GTM network (Salesforce, Dropbox, Heroku, Vimeo) — useful for intros and GTM pattern-matching as init builds the AI-MSP motion.

Conflict screen

  • Clean. None of his known angel/advisor positions (Cribl, Tailscale, Buildkite, dbt) touch ITSM / AI-MSP / IT-helpdesk — no overlap with init competitors (Serval, Console, Atomicwork, Ravenna, STLabs, Moveworks, Aisera, etc.).
  • His Heroku/Salesforce/Vimeo roles are career history, not investment conflicts.

Background

  • Heroku (2013–2018): CEO. Joined when his startup CloudConnect (co-founded) was acquired by Heroku (a Salesforce subsidiary) in 2013; grew the PaaS from self-serve into enterprise.
  • Vimeo (Nasdaq: VMEO): board director May 2021 – Nov 2025; interim CEO Sep 1, 2023 – Apr 8, 2024. Resigned from the board effective Nov 24, 2025 when Bending Spoons completed its ~$1.38B all-cash acquisition and Vimeo delisted — so he is no longer a Vimeo director (CRM “current Vimeo board director” note is now stale).
  • Earlier: senior product/marketing leadership at Salesforce and Dropbox; co-founded CloudConnect (and earlier Personify).^[single-source]
  • Angel / advisor: active across SaaS + developer infrastructure — multi-sourced checks/advisory in Cribl, Tailscale, Buildkite, dbt Labs; first independent advisor to Cypress.io (2019).
  • Education: B.S., New Media Systems & Policy, Carnegie Mellon University.
  • Identity: confirmed via Vimeo’s own PR + SEC offer letter + Equilar exec profile + Buildkite board PR (consistent name, bio, and career arc across all).
