Ara Kyi

Vice President at Sky9 Capital (Shanghai). Note: a VP, not a General Partner.

Background

  • Sky9 Capital — Vice President; “backs founders building disruptive technologies that drive positive change.” Stated focus: blockchain, AI, Web3, DeFi. (Bio credits no specific deals.)
  • OKX — first product manager in Singapore for OKX’s Web3 Wallet (led DeFi).
  • Brown University — began career in the HCI Systems Research Lab.
  • Role caveat: she is a VP, not a GP/partner — unlikely to write or lead a check solo; reads as a sourcing/relationship seat.

Fundraise Relationship (init.inc)

  • 🔥 Status: TERM SHEET (verbal → drafting), 2026-06-03. After the 6/3 meeting, Sky9 made a verbal offer and began drafting a term sheet — Ara (via iMessage kyieindra@icloud.com): “working with legal on the term sheet. It’ll be for Init Intelligence, Inc and addressed to you, passport name Sazzad Islam, correct?” and “For valuation do you have a range you’d like?” (Sazzad: “happy to get on a call… we’ll let the market decide the valuation.“) The partner/decision-maker pushing it was Ron Cao (“he is flying right now… pushing for you now”). Origin: Kushal Thaman named “sky9 capital - ara” in an iMessage intro list 2026-05-25.
  • Outcome: one of several competing term sheets during init’s oversubscribed close — init chose Saga to lead (6/5). Sky9’s bid contributed to the competitive tension that lifted the valuation. Whether Sky9 participates in init’s still-open strategic-angel allocation is undetermined; the China-linked cross-border capital / CFIUS consideration (below) weighs against it.
  • No email thread exists — the offer ran over iMessage (kyieindra@icloud.com + a mutual connector); Gmail had only Wilson Kyi / Basis Set (a different person; don’t conflate).
  • Conflict / fit (full analysis on Sky9 Capital):
    • No hard competitor conflict in Sky9’s book. Closest is Laiye (China RPA→“AI digital workers” for HR/finance) — a thesis-adjacency, not a US ITSM head-to-head. Good meeting question: “You backed Laiye — how do you think about init.inc vs. that?”
    • ⚠️ Real consideration = China-linked cross-border capital (RMB funds + China roots) on a US enterprise-IT/identity/security-adjacent cap table → CFIUS / enterprise-security-review / later-round optics. Not a conflict, but weigh before taking a check.
    • Reassessed: Sky9 did move fast and put a term sheet on the table (above) — so this was more than a relationship meeting. But the China-linked cross-border capital / CFIUS flag is exactly why init let Saga lead instead. Sky9 stays valuable for cross-border / Asia-expansion intel + the relationship.
  • Old data-quality note (resolved): a prior iMessage “Ara — WAITING_ON_THEM” status was a misattribution (resolved to Intiser Parash’s #, +1 615 238 7251) — there was no real Ara thread then. The current 6/3 meeting is separate and real.
