May 10 2026 refresh — Series C claim REFUTED + founders identified
“Series C” claim REFUTED. The string on getmodern.ai is "Series C healthtech automates onboarding from offer to laptop" — a customer case-study tile describing a hypothetical/anonymized buyer (a Series C healthtech company), NOT Modern’s own funding round. The original verification flag was a misread.
Founders identified:
- Seb Poole (CEO, co-founder). LinkedIn title “CEO @ Modern (YC P26) - AI for IT”. Previously co-founded Frankie Health (acquired Dec 2022). Crunchbase profile exists.
- Aleks Tomovski (co-founder). LinkedIn currently “Stealth.”
- Founding-team prior employers (per /about): Accenture, Wix, NAB, Canva, Unmind.
Funding state: YC P2026 SAFE only (~$500K standard, not itemized). No Series A or other round announced. Modern is NOT in the W26 batch (correctly absent from TechCrunch’s W26 Demo Day Mar 2026 coverage); P2026 Demo Day hasn’t happened yet.
Customers: /customers is “Coming soon” placeholder. Zero named customer logos across the site. Confirms original flag.
SOC 2 Type 2: Badge-only. /security/ describes encryption/audit logging but does NOT link to a Vanta/Drata/SafeBase trust report or auditor attestation.
Managed services: Marketed as a real product tier (“Modern Managed”), but structurally implausible at 2-person headcount.
Headcount: Still 2 per YC; no public growth signal.
Threat level: Stay Tier-B. Series C red flag was a misread (slightly raises credibility), and one founder has a prior exit (Frankie Health), but zero verified customers, no independent funding signal, badge-only SOC 2, 2 employees.
Snapshot
- HQ: Not surfaced
- Founded: 2026 (YC P2026 / Spring 2026 batch)
- Funding: YC seed only. Specific amount not disclosed. Homepage references “Series C funding” — inconsistent with 2-employee P2026 YC seed-stage status; treat as marketing copy error or aspirational language.
- Founders: Not publicly listed on YC profile or homepage. Primary YC partner: Aaron Epstein.
- Headcount: 2 (per YC page)
Pitch
“AI agents for IT, HR & Operations teams.” Auto-resolves 80%+ of high-volume requests (password resets, access provisioning, expense approvals, onboarding checklists). Plain-language workflow definition. Works alongside existing ITSM (overlay) OR runs as ITSM from day one (rip-and-replace). Most teams live in under a day. Also offers fully-managed IT services option.
Tier-B with explicit escalation trigger
Positioning maps perfectly onto Init Intelligence’s wedge — same “IT + HR + Finance” three-vertical scope, same overlay-or-replace optionality (matches Risotto AND Ravenna in one product), AND a “fully managed IT services option” overlapping Treeline’s service-led play.
But positioning is not threat. Modern has YC seed + 2 employees + unverified homepage metrics + the suspect “Series C” copy. Treat as design-partner aspirations until independently validated.
Escalation trigger: Move to Tier-A on first verified named customer logo OR Series A announcement.
Verification gaps to close
- Actual founders (LinkedIn / Crunchbase)
- Real customer logos (currently zero verified)
- Real funding round size
- Whether “managed services” claim is real or marketing copy
- Whether SOC 2 Type 2 has a public trust report or is just a homepage badge
